An Italian Cycling Holiday That’s Just That Little Bit Better
Casale Volpe, perfectly positioned in Le Marche between the Adriatic and the 2000-metre peaks of the Apennine mountains, is extraordinary cycling territory. Italy, cycling’s spiritual home, arbiter of bicycle style and home to the world’s most deliciously simple food, made even better by our region’s compelling authenticity. It’s Italy In One Region.
So What’s Special About Cycling In Le Marche?
Traffic-free valley roads carry you to the coast on relaxing sociable rides for seafood lunches. Blast up short 10-15% climbs to the ridges that dominate the Marche countryside. Choose Flandrian-style cobbled climbs up into medieval hill-top towns, or push yourself on the Monti Sibillini’s switchback climbs to the ski resorts of Sassotetto and Bolognola, regular features in the Giro d’Italia and Tirreno-Adriatico.
The annual GP Capodarco is a highlight in the U23 calender on our doorstep, the launch pad for the careers of riders such as Fabio Casartelli, Peter Kennaugh, Diego Ulissi and Gianni Moscon, whereas the nascent 3-day Giro delle Marche in Rosa attracts the world’s best women riders.
For the serious amateur rider, choose one or more events in the Marche Marathon, the multiple-race series of Gran Fondos that exploit the challenging yet beautiful terrain the region offers. It’s Italy: the feed stations could make fine-dining establishments blush. If gravel or off-road is your bag, the high mountains, rolling hills and deserted farm tracks mean we’ve got that in spades too.
